I left Quito the other day and I must admit, for a city a lot of people told me not to go to I had an absolute blast. I was warned that it was really dangerous and there was a high chance of getting mugged. Lucky for me I came out unscathed.
This street doesn't look like much but I was told that it is in fact the most dangerous street in South America. More muggings and attacks happen here than any other street. I was told this when I was walking down it at 3am with a mate. We picked up the pace a bit and made it home. Just after I took this pic I saw the cops putting a crack head into the back of a cop ute. They have hooks that they handcuff people to so they don't jump out.
I was invited by my mate Roman to paint at a festival in Quito. I thought it would be in a big park or something but it turned out to be in an outer suburb of Quito on a really busy road with big trucks and buses going by constantly.
For the first time in my life I painted on scaffolding. so I decided to go big. They also gave each everyone 30 cans of really bad paint to use. It was pretty funny because pretty much everyone used roller paint and kept the paint for themselves.
It was more of a street art thing than a writers day. I think the organizer wanted me to do something a bit more streetarty but whatever. I had a great day and met a bunch of cool guys from Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina and Peru.
Afterwards I painted a quick piece with some guys from Peru to use up some of the cans. Unfortunately I left before they finished so I don't have any flicks. This guy started picking up cans and doing a piece too. He was having a laugh but taking it really seriously. I also saw a guy grab a can of paint and start toughing up his car. It was totally the wrong colour but he didn't seem to mind.

Banos, Ecuador
After a bit over a month in Spain and England I'm back in South America in a town called Banos in Ecuador. It's a pretty small place surrounded by massive mountains and a big volcano and located right on the edge of the Amazon. I managed to find a couple of spots to paint. One wall was located right next to a big bridge with tourists bungee jumping off it all day. The only problem was I had to paint fast because the wall was covered in large tropical spiders and also had about 10 piles of human shit in front of it. It bloody stank.
I set off with my trusty bucket of paint and found this other spot that has a lot of potential. There are a lot of walls but I got a bit of lip off the locals before I even started so I'll have to come back and have a chat to them and try to do something decent.
