Cartagena, Columbia

I spent Christmas in Cartagena this year. It's an awesome city with a lot of history, cool architecture, good eating and hot weather. I'm yet to see any graff here but there are a few bits of streetart and a lot of cool sign writing.

This means 'don't piss here or I'll shoot you'.

Melbourne Realestate.com

A friend of mine was house hunting the other day and found this flick being used at the main photo for a house on Melbourne Realestate.com

The piece has been battered by the sun but it's good to know I've got a few around town that that toy Ruma hasn't got to yet.

Stuck in the Jungle

I´ve been in various areas of the Columbian jungle for about the last month so I havn´t been getting up to much art wise apart from sketching in my book from time to time. I spent a couple of weeks working on a coffee farm with a really cool family in the middle of nowhere. They live really primitive out there with no electricity, a lot of the time no running water and no windows or doors on their house. It takes one hour in a 4 wheel drive to the nearest shop so they live off the land. It was the first time since I was about 17 that I went for 2 weeks without a beer.

Once I left the coffee farm I went up north to the Caribbean coast and trekked for 6 days to a lost city deep in the jungle. There have been kidnappings in the past on route to the lost city, people have died from being swept away while crossing the rivers and a few people have stumbled across cocaine factories tucked away deep in the jungle. We needed a tour guide to get us there. A few years ago another guy started taking people out there and undercutting the other tour guides. So they killed him. Now every guide charges the same amount.

It's also been good to get some beach time in too.

Popayan

Just before Method and I parted ways we popped into Popayan in the south of Columbia. I was there about a month ago and stayed in the same place. This time the view from my window looked a bit different. Two days before we got there the bank across the plaza has been blown up because there was a secret military office inside there and the FARC were retaliating over the murder of their leader the week before.

While we were there we managed to paint a spot on a busy intersection. There isn't really any graff in Popayan. There are a bunch of stencils a few tags and some paint bombs from protests but these are the only pieces we saw.
